Yoga Therapist
This program builds on the 500 hour program by adding advanced
teaching methodology and techniques. This program is designed for
those who want to a complete, holistic health and yoga therapy
consulting practice. Students qualify to apply for board certification
as a Holistic Health Practitioner through the American Association of
Drugless Practitioners. See the AADP for further information.
Yoga therapy aims at the holistic treatment of various kinds of
psychological or somatic dysfunctions ranging from back problems
to emotional distress. It is a holistic healing art that focuses on
understanding the human being as an integrated body-mind
system, which can function optimally only when there is a state of
dynamic balance.
This training includes an optional field experience in India or
Thailand. Training meets the requirements for the illustrative
standards of the International Association of Yoga Therapist.
Prerequisites: 500 Hour Balance Yoga Certification or equivalent
Training curriculum:
- Special populations and condition management
- Cardiovascular conditions (hypertension, CAD, PVD)
- Pulmonary conditions (Asthma, COPD)
- Metabolic (Diabetes, obesity, blood lipid disorders)
- Immune/hematological disorders (cancer, arthritis,
HIV/AIDS, anemia, chronic fatigue syndrome, lupus)
- Neurological disorders (Fibromyalgia, stroke, MS,
Parkinson’s)
- Othopedic (low back pain, musculoskeletal challenges,
osteporosis)
- Psychological disorders (depression, anxiety, easting
disorders)
- Human development (aging and frailty)
- Introduction to medical terminology
- Personal wellness coaching
- Behavior modification
- Health appraisal and physical activity prescription
- Nutrition counseling, sports and weight management
- Community health education methods
- S.O.A.P notes and client records
- Establishing a private practice
- Introduction to living biology and chemistry
- Introduction to Ayureveda
- Introduction to medical professions and third party billing
- Client communications
- Introduction to massage, reflexology and acupressure
- Holistic nutrition, vegetarianism and dietary based disease
states
- History and fundamentals of naturopathy
- Toxicity and detoxification
- Field Experience: India/Thailand (optional)
